1970 Plymouth Cuda Pro Touring Rotisserie Restored Resto Mod

Item location: Costa Mesa, California, United States

The definition of a pro touring build is to take a classic beauty like this ’70 Plymouth Cuda and fill it with modern internals and a high horsepower engine. It's been done over and over to the point where it’s really no big deal anymore. However, every now and then there comes a build that really pops out on the car show circuit. Here is an example of what I'm talking about. With a 6.1 liter Hemi engine, a bullet proof Tremec 5-speed transmission, modern fully independent suspension and luxurious ostrich skin leather interior, this Cuda is the envy of any speed demon looking to capture the heartbeat of America.

Current bid: US $85,100.00

Is this a Barracuda or a 'cuda? What mods were done to the TKO to make it more durable, they definitely aren't bullet proof in stock form? Also, what engine management system are you using? Great, looking car and that ostrich interior has to be something sweet.

Good Guys at Del Mar is this weekend, if you haven't already registered I bet you can still register for that Autocross and For Sale lot. There are some top notch Pro-Tour cars that run through that show. Good luck with the sale.

Is this a Barracuda or a 'cuda?

The fender tag picture (although it looks like a reproduction tag) shows it's an original FJ5 340 4spd 'Cuda with the rubber front bumper option :scared:

Nevermind on the engine management, read in the the ebay ad that you are running FAST. Still curious on the tranny upgrades to make it bulletproof.

"Bidding ended" @ $85k. Guess he wanted to try out that bulletproof 5 speed himself!  ;)

It's really nothing that someone couldn't easily get done themselves for around 60K - 70K.

Hmmmmm

"In fact, it would cost you well over $250,000 to replicate a car of this caliber from ground up."

And a TKO is "bulletproof", right. I had mine worked over by a shop that takes them from stock inferiority up to 700 lb ft tq capabilities and they even gave me a disclaimer and told me that you still can't abuse it. To me "bulletproof" means that even if beat on and abused it can take it.

250K to replicate that? Nope. They state in the ad that the outside was left stock looking on purpose so you're not looking at custom fabrication metal work. You can find a real nice stock small block 'cuda/Barracuda for 30K that doesn't need bodywork, click on Reillymotorsports.com and order up their complete catalog for under 10K, worked over SRT crate engine at 20K, 5K for a TKO kit. $1500 exhaust. Finally, those stale wheels that are cheeeep.

I think the car is in the $70,000 - $87,500 price range. I would like to be corrected if I'm wrong but I don't think the seller is the builder. You know you never get out of a car what you put in it UNLESS you build modified cars for a living and have deals with companies to use their parts and have customer funded jobs. If you do the work yourself and you are RESTORING cars there is a profit in that. BUILDING customs and then trying to sell them is hardly profitable. Some have a nack for design like Steve Strope, Foose, Trepanier, but the market is so subjective. It's a custom car so not everyone is going to be willing to pay whatever it takes to get it. You are looking for that ONE buyer.

I have a feeling this seller is adding the receipts and factoring the very top of the range in labor/hr cost.

I could be completely wrong on all of this. I have know clue what I'm talking about. I'm just building a car like this with a $25K engine and basically all of the other parts this car has in it.

He's asking $129,900.00 Which is what some of these "resto-mods" might be worth if you find the right buyer.
You're correct....once you modify a car from stock, you have to find a buyer with the same taste as you. Not always easy :2cents:

No way, that's like Sick Fish (Foose/Joe Rogan) territory. For a resto-mod/ pro-touring car to be 130K you're talking one off carbon fiber stuff, custom metal fabrication to the valances and side skirts, at least $1000 a wheel (not the Torque Thrusts, dude. I s this still 1999?). Look in the engine bay, past the engine. Smoothed inner fenders and firewall? No. Billet this and that? No. Are the bumpers tucked and frenched? No. Not that I'm against it (I have and Alter-k-tion) but a 130K car doesn't do "bolt-on" or "kits". That' the territory where you START to see the "one-off" stuff. Simple market research. It doesn't equal the sum of it's parts. It's almost double. There is a reason it bid up to 85K. That's what people are willing to pay for it. That is a testament to it's "worth".

This is NOT a 130K car. It just isn't. That's a pipe dream.
