That's a cool experience.  Wish I were there!
HIS: '68 GMC 3/4 ton pick-up truck, '73 Barracuda, '87 Firebird, '01 Jeep Cherokee and finally a '70 Barracuda Convertible!
HERS: 1980 Toyota Starlet, 1995 SAAB 9-5 and then '01 SAAB 9-3 and currently '08 Saab 9-3 convertible!

I had a summer job at a golf course when I was 16 (1980) and I saw a white 'cuda with black around the tail lights in the parking lot. I had never heard of the colour 'organisol' and I don't recall if the taillights were round or not. But that chrome 'cuda emblem on a black background was seared into my memory. Just thought 'WOW' that sure looks good!
Stuck on Mopar ever since.

Despite both of my parents working for Packard/GM, we always had MOPARS. It's what I knew growing up and to this day I still prefer the stylings over the other brands.  :2thumbs:

i didnt have a choice it was one of the last of many mopars / muscle cars that i ended up with when my daughter was born . 1973 crashed barracuda , funny i never even thought of mopar until i couldnt afford a muscle car anymore .

not really a matter of choice is it?  lol   I didn't know there were any other brands worth having.

Ever hear some one say "I was the first in my family to go to college"?  Well, I was the first in my family to drive a Mopar.  I had crashed my 51 Merc and ordered a new 56 Ford Fairlane 500 2-dr HT.  It had not arrived when I had to have a car for my honeymoon.  I went shopping around town and spotted a great looking 55 Plymouth 2-dr HT with 260 V-8 and automatic with 9,000 miles on it.  It was red and white and cute as a bug.  I kept it for the next 15 years and it was a great car.  During some of that time I worked in a service station where we did lots of mechanical work.  The cars needing the least work were Mopars.  Since then with the exception of a 59 Chev Impala Conv I've driven nothing else!  PK

My uncle owned a dragstrip where I worked every Sunday for maybe eight years. SS and SS/A were dominated by mopar.

I did not get to see it util I was 30 or so, same with The Dukes of Hazzard.

When I was 14, my older brother bought a 1970 Dodge Dart. I was so impressed with it that I bought it from him when I was 16.

I was also 14 the first time I ever heard of a Challenger T/A, a pal brought a magazine home that had one in it. 5 years later I owned one.  :bigsmile:

I think the 55 and 56 Plymouths, especially the 2 door hard tops made nice cruisers, and the lil V/8 with a column manual was fun to drive. In high school my boss at the car wash drove one of these, he let me drive it out in the parking lot and I'd bark the tires pretty easily.

I also like this post  :roflsmiley: compared to ole "Skunky" here I'm just a middled aged old fart, hell he has me by 12 years.  :woohoo:  :roflsmiley:

It probably helped that Widing'Cuda on here was driving a '70 Charger at the time I got my Chally, but I was open for Fords and Chebbies too.
After a lot of pondering, it was down to either a Chally or a second gen Camaro. I went to a guy with absolute loads of old american iron for sale, I were only allowed to sit in the cars, no test drive then (The guy is a bit of a character, and a dubious one too), but that was enough for me.

I still like the exterior of the second gen Camaro, but the interior didn't do it for me.
The interior of the Chally, well, from the first second it felt Right. It felt like I had come home. It was how I liked it.
The exterior is cooler than the Camaro too, so that was it.
I didn't buy the car I had a test-sit in, too rusty and overpriced with a shady seller, but it helped me choose.

Before my Challenger, I owned a 69 Satellite; got it because it was for sale near where I lived. I was very impressed with the motor. Fast, and I couldn't hurt it no matter how badly I treated it. When it was in a wreck, I knew I wanted another MoPar, and then, a couple of months before I turned 17, I found my Challenger.

I was the first in my family to go Mopar too.  Growing up, my dad usually had Buicks, but in his youth had a number of Ford hot rods and then got some new Ford converts when he was in college and in his 20's. I'm pretty sure I was driven home from the hospital in a Buick, I should ask them someday.  One of my earliest memories was falling off their Buick station wagon on my birthday when I was 3 or 4, I was waiting for them to get ready so we could head over to my grandparents for a party, went out to play on the car, fell off the roof and ended up with a heck of a shiner for a birthday present!  I'm lucky I didn't get brain damage (maybe I did??)
And I recall playing in my dad's '67 Buick special, shifted the shifter and the car started to roll down the driveway, wrecked the door up when it hit our tree!
So by all accounts I should be a Buick fan??
But when I was 14 I saw Vanishing Point on TV and seeing Kowalski shifting that pistol grip and the sound of that engine, I was hooked for life, I really was, my first car was my T/A, and last month I got a '71 R/T, when I'm 80 if I live that long I'll probably still be messing around with Mopars, or sitting in a nursing home reading about them in magazines!
I wonder what my life would have been like if I hadn't seen that movie 34 years ago?

Regarding my current Mopar ('66 Plymouth Fury VIP 383-4 bbl), one of my brothers used to own a '66 Fury III (318) and I always liked it. So I decided to find one, but a top-of-the-line model and with a big-block engine.

I also owned a '66 Dodge Dart GT V-8 from 1979 to 2002 so I was already familiar with Mopars.

I  just wanted to add to why I choose Mopar.  A 55 Plymouth was my introduction to Mopar.  See my previous post on this subject.  I have a 55 Plymouth now, owning it since 1977.  It is exactly like the first one except for color.  It's a 2-dr H.T. with 260 V-8, powerflite and all the good trim stuff.  I restored it in 1980 and have not even tuned it up in all that time.  I've only driven it 12,000 miles in those 30 years but the mere passage of time speaks well as to the dependability of Mopars.  Wish I could have included a picture!  PK
