Carb sugestions
« on: October 19, 2010 - 09:29:37 AM »
I have an 86 360 crate engine.

I plan to put a 4bbl on top

I have no real infor on the specs of the engine, but assume it is pretty much stock
at most a minor bore.  However they typicly come

I like the idea of a TQ carb, but honestly have learned that there is so much more than
picking up a carb at the local flea market.

I am assuming a 600cfm would be good (any thoughts)
and that I need to stick to a small block version.

There are so many numbers I will have to simply run them one at a time...unless there is
a certain one (or ones) I should aim for.  such as a series, or 9000's 4000's etc.

I plan to drive this truck as a daily driver and to haul when I need to (car trailer, etc)

if it is in good condition the TQ is a decent carb but the newest ones are almost 30 years old now , I cannot help you with the best # to look for but it was used for almost a decade on 360s of various years , the small TQ is an 850 CFM btw

thanx, I did not reallize they started at 850cfm's ... I would have thought that to be too much for a 360.
but since they came factory with them ... it must not be.  wow

At this point I would be willing to try most any carb, within reason, I can not say I am a fan of the Holley on my Challenger...
but I guess if it was tweeked enough it might be better too. (it is a Holley 80457-1 (2007) for what that is worth)

For a truck, I would suggest a Holley style 750 with vacuum secondaries.  Neil is always suggesting the ProForm carbs and I see they have a street version out with adjustable air bleeds.  That might be a good choice for something where you want the best mileage?

I vote for the Thermoquad, go to Demonsizler site and catch up on some reading.
There is lots of great info out there if you do a quick search of thermoquad on google.

The TQ is a great performing carb.  You can still buy the rebuild kits from autozone for $20.
