T/A vs. Rallye Hood Molding
« on: November 19, 2010 - 01:10:56 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this so if I'm wrong, Mods please move.

Is there a difference between the front molding on the 70 Challenger hoods? The reason why I ask is I have a piece of trim that came off a T/A hood and was wanting to use it on a Shaker hood. I thought I read someplace there was a difference.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

I can't tell you exactly what the difference is, but there is a difference. Maybe Barry(Alaskan T/A) will know. It's possible the difference might just be in how they mount. On the steel hoods there are clips with studs connected to them that feed thru holes in the front lip of the hood. How does the T/A trim mount? I can dig out a steel hood molding here shortly if you want a picture.

OK,

Here is the molding. Notice the studs on the back that have speed nuts on them to hold them to the front lip of the steel hood.

I've read somewhere that the T/A trim was 1/2" narrower or something like that? I installed my steel hood trim on my repop T/A hood with no issues? I just used longer studs like Mike shows in his picture.

I just compared the T/A molding to a NOS steel hood molding that I have and they are identical. So I guess the difference must be the studs.

The molding itself is identical.

The 'glass hoods have a thicker front edge, so the studs are longer.
