440 Plug Gap with MSD Coil
« on: November 22, 2010 - 07:34:34 AM »
I've read here in the forum that plug gap should be .035 or .045 if using a high output coil.  Is the MSD Blaster 2 High Vibration coil considered a high output coil?  Thats the coil that I have but I do not have the MSD Igition Box....I have the Chrome Mopar Box.  I'm fixing to change my plugs (Champion RJ12YC) and want to know if I should be gapping them to .045.

Basic rule for ignitions is this: if using the stock, points-style ignition, use the factory-recommended plug gap. If using an electronic ignition, increase gap to .045". Some very high-output ignitions can tolerate a wider gap, but I have seen no additional gains by increasing gap beyond .045". If using a power adder, your plug gap will need to change according to your needs with that setup.

I've got a Blaster 3 and 6AL with NGK BP5Ss at 34 thou.
Any wider and they foul too easy.
Every engine is different though and slight variations in gap will apply.
Burnouts are cool but Traction is the Action

I agree with the 40-45 thou , wider than that & you put too much load on the ign wires & no gain in power
