1970 R/T S/E CHALLENGER REAR WINDOW ADVICE

HI all I am new to this chat. I just bought my first mopar. after many years of collecting various chevys, cadillacs and buicks, I just fellin love with a 70 rt challenger and had to have one. BUT only one problem. I liked the R/T S/E but its yellow with a vinyl roof. and i dont really like the  vinyl roof. I wanted to paint the roof the same color as the rest of the car but in doing some research these S/E cars came out with a vinyl top because of the opera window fillers. MY question is can i remove the fillers and fit a standard coupe back glass with the standard challenger mouldings. please someone help me before I tear the roof lining off for no reason.  thanks sotarods

Yes, you can remove the back window wit the plug and replace it with normal rear window with proper moldings. And then you can get rid of vinyl top.

  Welcome to the site! I am doing the same thing. Mine was originally an SE. I got the large window trim for it and will not install a vinyl top. You should introduce yourself in the newbie intro section and show us some pictures of your car!

A RT/SE is a rare car.  Without the small rear window you will take away from the SE look.  You will get all kinds of questions about where the rear window went.

Agreed. Total sacrilege. You might as well sell the 29 and buy a 23.

Would you put a "regular" back window in a Superbird or Daytona?

If you decide to remove it then at least put it away securely so you can either use it later or at least if you sell the car it will add to the sale price if you can throw the window in the deal. There are less of these windows available now and some prefer them.

YES all of you that are concerned that I will take away the SE from the car, youre probably right, but i have no intention of getting rid of the rear window and filler. I just like the non vinyl roof car. maybe as time goes on I can always put it back in there.? but for you RT/SE fans I absolutely will not sell the glass or filler, no matter what because the fender tag matches the rad support which matches the vin tag and build sheet. so in saying that its just personal preference, I aint screwing up a great muscle car, just mking it my own.  thanks for both views , Its made me think alot about what I should do.
