71 E body (cuda) headliner question: Alternatives?
« on: December 02, 2010 - 04:44:16 PM »
Folks:  The headliner on my 71 Cuda is worn out.

Im looking for a one piece replacement:  Not the OEM style, 5 bow with cloth type headliner, but a one peice carboard type with the headliner material already glued on, like the mid 70's type GM cars had

Has anyone heard of such a thing for the 71 Cudas that might be avaialble?

Good luck finding one in decent shape.  The ones I've seen were $$$ and, well, 40 years does takes a toll.

I also want to get rid of the bow style headliner in my Challenger.  There was someone making a fiberglass replica of the GrandCoupe/SE headliner on Moparts, here's the thread: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=A12&Number=5743778&fpart=1&PHPSESSID=#Post6323540

I'm half-tempted to make my own as mentioned in the thread: put some thin plastic down on the roof and start laying down fiberglass & resin.  Pop it off when dry, trim to fit, and add headliner material.  Perhaps I should try this as winter project for myself.

Heres my plan   Ill get some fiberboard  (Super cheap).  Using the removed original liner as a template, cut board to size and fit

Visit an upholstery or material shop and get the vynil I like, glue it to the board:  Now I have a grand coupe type headliner

Now glue it to the inside of the roof

I noticed a grand coupe headliner for 70-71 e-body on ebay. It may be more than you want to spend, but I thought you'd be interested in checking it out:

Im in colorado springs co.

I just went to Home depot,  In the section where thin fiberboards are sold, is a very thin, but very flexible and durable 4' x 8' plastic board.   This will be the perfect base for my project

Take pics during the install if you can.  I, and I'm sure others, would be very interested in how it turns out.

Yes, very interested.  I too would like a gran coupe headliner.
