Thanks guys! I was confused because my manual shows two breakdowns & one shows the nuts to the outside and the other shows the nuts to the inside. I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

I have always installed them with the head of the bolt in the wheelwell & the lock nuts inside the engine compartment , I assume this is what you mean by inside & outside ?

Yes it is. I don't think the bolts will fit in the holes if you put the heads on the outside of engine compartment.

when you take the dust plates off, that is where the nut and washer is so you can loosen the assembly, I said it backwards as usual. The shaft and ecentric goes in from the center of the upper control arm. Sorry for the confusion.

I had to go check a couple of cars. I had it turned around in my mind. The nut goes inside the engine compartment. It makes sense. If the nut were exposed to the elements it would be a bear to loosen.

I see a lot of them painted body color which is wrong. They should be phosphated. I used a black oxide kit from Caswell plating to replicate the phosphate look. New cam bolts come zinc plated.
I was looking at a Challenger at the Nat's a few years back while it was being judged. The judge noticed the bolts installed wrong and told the owner. The owner didn't believe the judge and said the bolts wouldn't go in from wheelwell.
The ICCA website says that the bolts should NOT have a flat on one side but my origonal 73 bolts do. Does anyone know if the earlier years didn't use a cam bolt with a flat?

That pic is from my SE. It is far from being restored. It was spray bombed black all over the engine compartment and all over all the assesories and wiring in the engine compartment. It is a real mess. If the bolt did not have a flat spot the cam would not be held in place. The cam would then just become a washer. All the bolts would have to have the flat spot. I am understanding your question correctly?

:iagree:the bolts have to have a flat side so the washer will turn with the bolt otherwise there is no point to having a cammd bolt / washer

The cam is built into the bolt on the other end so it really doesn't matter if the loose cam washer has a flat or not, but I agree that it makes sence that it does. The wording on the ICCA site isn't very clear.

It needs the flat on the thread end
or it will jam. Which will be excessively hard to do the front end alignment. The control arms are a ***** to adjust and keep square with out both concentrics.
