Greetings everyone
« on: December 15, 2010 - 09:23:29 PM »
I have owned a 1970 Super Bee for 20 years now but I am just about to become a brand new E-body owner.

In a few days, I am picking up a 70 Challenger R/T 383 4 speed. I'm so jazzed I can hardly sleep! I've always wanted one next to my Bee.

I spent hours inspecting every inch of the car to be sure of what I'm buying. This car is all numbers matching. There is not a single speck of rust on it either. The down side is there was some old front end damage that has never been repaired correctly. I will have to remove and redo the radiator support and replace warped inner fender walls. The cowl has some minor damage but a sheet metal guy I brought with me thought it shouldn't be too bad. The drive train was all redone, brakes redone, suspension redone. Just needs cosmetics.

The car is Go Mango with a vinyl top (removed yrs ago when it went into storage).

The bummer on this car is someone tossed the fender tag when they bolted on new fenders. The carpet is original but what are the chances I will find the build sheet? From reading other posts, I guess the LA built cars did not usually have build sheets?

As I am new to E-bodies, I would sure appreciate any advice on the car. I want to take my time and do it right. I'd like to keep it forever.

Also, does anyone know how I can learn more about the build date? The serial number on the car is 100750 which suggests it was a fairly early car?

Thanks in advance for the replys.

I'm not sure what's up with those seats. Is that an original Chally option? Never seen it quite like that but I'm very unfamiliar with the Challys. I'm guessing the inserts were not factory but I might replace them with orange vinyl so it looks more correct. The rest of the vinyl is perfect, stiching and all.

Thanks. I appreciate the vote of confidence. I really learned alot on my Bee over the years so I hope to avoid many of the mistakes I made.

I actually like the seat style but the inserts are red and the car is originally orange so it's hard for me to believe they would send it out like that. If I am lucky enough to find the build sheet, I will probably go back to whatever was original. If not, I may just change the inserts to orange vinyl for the cool factor alone.

Welcome!  Great looking project.  Check about the glove box, and under the buckets, behind the seat backs and the behind the back seat for the build sheet.

The story is a friend of mine has another friend who has been collecting project mopars for years. He's getting a bit older and decided to sell off some of his 66 cars including the one I got. I think he figured on focusing his efforts on his favorite projects. This one has been sitting under a waterproof cover for about 10 years patiently waiting for attention.

I was blown away by all the cool stuff this guy has collected in the past 30 yrs. You can see in the background other challengers, GTXs, and Roadrunners he is selling. My friend is helping him with the logistics of finding new homes for all these awesome cars.

The most stunning part was he has lots and lots of these giant connex boxes (large shipping containers). The connex boxes are overflowing with original sheet metal and other precious parts he has collected for his projects. He is giving me all the sheet metal I need to redo the front end including a spare cowl but the other stuff he wants to keep for his remaining projects. He even threw in an NOS valance.
