Pypes SS Exhaust tips (When a good deal is NOT so good)
« on: December 17, 2010 - 06:32:44 AM »
I thought I got a great deal, only $145 for these Pypes SS exhaust tips for my Challenger.  Got them from Summit with the 15% off deal that was floating around.

They look great EXCEPT they etched their name right on top!  Wouldn't be so bad if it was on the bottom.

Anyone know of another vendor for 2.5" tips at a reasonable price?

If their stainless steel you can sand & buff out if the etch is not to deep.

TTI also etches their exhaust tips.  I don't think the logo is as big as the ones you have though.

Bullitts suggestion is a good one.   That's what I'd do.  It shouldn't be that hard.  The etching doesn't look very deep.

I got mine through one of the generic sellers on Ebay, and they have no marking or anything, and have held up just fine after 2 years.

I thought about that, looked at a couple of videos on YouTube that showed how to repair/polish SS.

I'm sure I can do it, but why spend several hours and $30 bucks or more on supplies. Not to mention I don't have a buffing wheel.

What I originally thought was a good deal is now costing me $30 for shipping back and forth from Summit with nothing to show for it!

How far do you plan on having the tips stick out?  If you put them where the factory did, they will probably be hidden anyway.  They didn't stick out very far when new.  Before I returned them, I think I'd mock them up to see if the logo is even visable. :2cents:

That actually is a good deal.  I paid $135 on Ebay for a set of used ones that were cut off a '71 Challenger about 7 years ago.  I know, bad deal....  :faint:

I got my stainless steel tips from Accurate Exhaust Products. You'll have to call to see if he has 2 1/2. I think I got the last pair a couple months ago. . And they weren't cheap. But they are nice.

I actually have a set of Accurate tips on the car now, they are 2" and look great.  You're right they aren't cheap, I think I paid $220, 2 or 3 yrs ago.  These Pypes tips are almost as nice if not for the stupid etching!

I was getting ready to spring for a complete 2.5" TTI exhaust system.  Might just be cheaper to find a way to adapt the 2" tips to the 2.5" system.

That stinks and is misleading. Nothing on the summit site or Pypes site about the etching and the pictures show no signs of it. I'd polish it out, won't really be that hard to do.
