I'm not sure you have enough paint.  I bought 2 gals of base and 2 gals of clear (2021) and I'll be starting paint in a week or so.  I'll let you know how much I go through.  You'll want to batch your paint if you have more than 1 gal, so it's best to get it all at the same time.

When are you going to start painting?

Shooting for Spring. Start buying stuff in the meantime. This cold weather front is killing me right now on bodywork progress.

I have 2 hoods to do when I do.

Having just painted the trunk of my Challenger a few hours ago, I can tell you 1 gallon of paint will not be enough.  I'm thinking 2 gallons will be close, but might even be short too!  Painting the trunk, bottom of the car, inside floors, engine bay, both sides of the doors, fenders, hood and deck lid along with the front and rear valance will eat up a LOT more paint than you think.

I've been concerned about that. One reason why I am trying to find a compatible tinted primer to match the paint. Should be able to stretch the material out further.  Some guns have less over spray to help maximize the use of materials that would help too.

What gun are you using?

I'm using 3 different guns.  The trunk area was shot with a small trim gun to get in all the small areas.  A normal size gun would be a real problem.

Hope you can see the image?

After all the hard work to get the body perfect, I refuse to not do the best job I can on the paint.  I will let you know how much I go through as I'm sure you'll be doing about the same level of paint as I am.  You might want to think about using 2021 for clear.

This photo is 2 coats of base (no clear had been shot over it yet).

Looking great CODY.
Definitely interested in how much you end up using.
Thanks.

Since paint and clear is sooooo expensive, is there any reason you couldn't just leave the interior in epoxy?  Is there a real reason to paint the interior just to cover it with carpet?

Has anyone done that?

well said stefan.  :2thumbs:
seems we have an influx of experts encompassing all aspects of our cars as of late.
i feel sorry for some of the new folks seeking advice, only to receive opinions from the wrong sources.
have a great turkey day!!
Just to make sure we're comparing apples to apples - paint we have here in CA is probably not the same formula as in other parts of the country. There are different counties within the state that have different standards than their neighbors. Might be why there is some animosty towards certain brands here since I know a few of the posters in this thread are in CA and the CARB (california air resources board) likes to keep changing the rules. I don't care one way or the other and I'm not knocking anyone's opinion or work, just wanted to share that...

Oh, TC your price quotes were just about the same as what I paid for my paint here in sacramento. My painter was not able to buy the same paint in Lodi because the county mandates a different formulation. Made it a pain when he needed additional material but that is what he wanted to shoot.

Thanks Eric, re: my quote being good; good to confirm. CARB has taken over most of the bay area. But not Santa Cruz and on down to Monterey.

Mike, I have painted the trunk, inside and bottom of my Challenger so far.  Two coats of base with one coat of clear using the same product line you have chosen.  Using a Sata jet 4 (and Sata trim gun for the hard to reach places) I've went through 1 gallon (with reducer added it's really 2 gallons sprayable) with still more to paint than I have completed.  My guess is it will be 2.5 gallons of paint + 2.5 gallons of reducer (I have 3 gallons of paint) and I'll keep the last half gallon as backup.  Using this quality of paint it will run me about $2,500 (not including any epoxy, glaze or primers).

All said and done (doing the work myself) it will cost me about $15K in materials (much more if you count the tools I bought!) to get the car in to paint.  I have not cut one corner and I know of several ways I COULD have saved money.... but I refuse to cut any corners.

At little more than I expected it to end up needing. That's O.K.
I'm saving up now for the paint materials to buy.

Thanks CODY and Merry Christmas.
