Can or how to fix a partially broken hole on the engine block that the engine mounting bracket bolts to? This is on the right (passenger) side of the block and is the lower hole that the engine mounting bracket bolts to. This is on a 400 block. The other top engine block holes are fine. Or can it be used as is with this partially broken hole. Thanks for replies.

You could possibly drill it out and tap it oversize & use an oversize bolt. I'm not sure how much metal is there in regards to an oversize bolt. You could also put a heili-coil in the drilled out hole and use a standard bolt. I'm not a welder, but have been told cast iron can be tricky to weld, but not outside the realm of possibility. If a piece is broken off, the only solution may be to try and have it welded. maybe a picture would better show the condition so a better evaluation can be made!!

Sorry about the no pictures but this block is in storage away from here. I'll just deal with this issue locally as I was just trying to get some ideas from outside sources. I quess that this broken engine block mount castings on the early 400 blocks was somewhat common as they made this same casting thicker in the later year castings. Thanks for the input but I can't do pictures now.

This may be too late for a reply, but in this web page link from 440 source is a good picture of exactly the type and location of the break I was trying to describe.

use the 2 tops, it isnt the tq side, so you really don't have a big issue if the mount still bolts on with the other 2 bolts.  If it was the drivers side, I'd say use a tq limiter. You could use a tq strap on the pass side if you are really worried, but it isnt a big issue as far as i can tell from your description. I have done it before myself without issues

Thanks for the reply Moparal.  I would like to use this block for a moderate (450 -500 hp) 451 build in my Challenger. I'll use the torque limiting device of some kind on the driver's side for sure. Does this alter your advise about this situation?

Thanks Moparal for following me on this post. If this block passes the sonic testing and magnafluxig, I'll just use this block with a torque strap.
