Im an old 4 speed guy that recently bought a 440 Cuda with a 727 auto. transmission.  Having no prior experience with beefing up auto transmissions, Im looking for info. from those that have put reverse manual valve bodies and a performance torque converter in a 727.  Compared to a stock 727 what are the performance changes noticed when making the above mods. to a 727.  I know as far as the reverse manual valve body goes that the 1,2,3 shift pattern is reversed and that you have to shift thru all gears yourself.... but performance wise how will it be better and how will it then compare to a stock 727 performance wise?  As far as installing a better performance torque converter ...what will I notice then performance wise?  Thanks in advance

My car already had the reverse manual valve body when I got it.

It's definitely firms up the shifts, no problem "barking" the tires when going into 2nd.   :burnout:

My converter was made for the cam in my engine. 4500 stall. The reverse valve body makes it fun to drive as you have to shift yourself, always going away from reverse. ABSOLUTELY race shift performance, I didn't think I had any choice with a 700+ h.p. car. I can put my car in drive and never have to shift if I don't want to. :grinyes:

the reverse manuel valve body with low band apply is fun (stay away from the cheeta valve body or a valve body that doesnt have low band apply). you have to re learn how to drive the car some what (shift under power /gas pedal applied). the reverse valve body(prostreet  valve body from crt) is great for the street BUT it will work alot better if you choose a trans governor when in auto mode for better shifts . the manual mode works simular to the the full manual but not the same .

Mine is a cheetah valve body. No gripes what so ever.  :clueless:

cheta is good . i wouldnt use it with out a trans blanket.

Any non low band apply VB is a ticking time bomb. Especially if your car hooks hard.

  • In Kansas loaded for Drive to West Coast.
The convertor has to be matched to the cam/modifications you are using, stock or mild cams don't require a higher stall speed generally.   :burnout:

Thanks for the replies guys but what I want to know is what will I notice performance wise if I installed a reverse manual valve body? ..... harder shifts etc.  And what will I notice with a performance torque converter?  i.e.  what will I notice over a stock converter when from a dead stop I punch it?
