New gas station nozles and flip top
« on: January 09, 2011 - 02:23:00 AM »
Anyone haveing problems with the new pump nozzles at the gas stations fitting inside the flip top to pump gas? It seems like the rubber around the nozzles is too big fit inside the gas top.

Big time problem.  I don't know where you are located, but we have had vapor recovery nozzles in Southern California for a long time.  Some of the vapor seals are narrower than others, so some fit inside the neck of the flip top assembly.

What I do when I fill the car (any car including daily drivers) is to pull the vapor seal back from the end of the fill nozzle so I can see the nozzle itself.  Then I put the nozzle in the fill pipe.  This keeps the vapor seal from jamming itself in the flip top neck.

On the newer cars it allows me to get the tank really full.

I hope this helps.

Thanks thats exactly what I have been doing. I live in San Jose so we have had the nozzles for awhile as well, I just wanted to see if anyone else has been having the same problem.

Yes, they're a pain in the butt. I've never been able to set the pump nozzle and walk away from it, but with the flip cap the vapor recovery sleeve doesn't usually fit inside the cap. At the station I use the most it sits on the outside of the flip top frame, so the nozzle doesn't go as far into the filler. I don't have to hold the vapor recovery sleeve, but I have to stand there with the nozzle the whole time.

Would a Pocket Knife, Machette or Pair of Scissors help cutting the rubber off the nozzle so it fits!  :naughty:
