rat rod, new 5.7 or 57 392
« on: January 09, 2011 - 05:35:38 PM »
So am considering building a hot rod sometimes soon, I recently picked up a 5.7 hemi that hopefully wont need a plethora of new parts..I wasn't able to get the computer/wiring with it. I am wanting to run a carb anyways, but what do I do about ignition? If its gonna cost a ton i'lll prolly jus sell the new hemi and start rebuildin the old one. I am lookin to build a rod to put a lot of miles on

Are you asking for opinions on which one would be cooler for the car or which one will be more cost effective? Because if you are going for the cool factor I definitely say the 392

Mopar & others , can set you up with a stand alone wiring harness for the 5.7 engine , the factory one would not work due to have inputs from the tranny & other sensors you will not have

no , I called MP & they actually gave me the # for another company to build me a wiring harness for a different project , do some searching , many companies can help you with a harness to make the 5.7 work

If you want to run a carb you can go to Summit Racing and purchase the MSD Hemi-6 controller and the MSD harness to fit your coils to run your ignition. Very clean and efficient setup, everything just plugs in except for the 2 wires for the 12 volt ignition and 12 volt battery wires. Here's some links;
