who makes the softest weatherstrips?
« on: January 08, 2011 - 09:46:06 PM »
I'm trying to put some finishing touches on my Bee and one of the things that is nagging me is the door seals.

I put on a set of Metro or Soft Seal (can't recall which) a few years ago and they are just to stiff for my liking. If I adjust the mechanism so that the doors close nice and flush, I have to slam the doors big time to get them to shut. If I loosen up the latches a little, they close nice but the doors stick out 1/8 which drives me crazy.

Anyone know which company makes really soft squishy door seals?

By the way, mine are solid where I have seen late 70's dodge trucks which use a hollow core seal allowing it to squish perfectly when the door closes. Is there someone who makes the hollow core ones? Modern cars use the hollow core stuff and they close and seal perfectly.

I know lots of car restorers of all makes complain about this and recently, I saw a guy who took the repo set of door gaskets, shaved down the backside of the rubber, reattached the clips somehow and custom made a set of door gaskets which wer 1/8 thinner so he didn't have the door slam issue anymore.

Any thoughts on that? Sounds like a big pain to me.
