radiator Hose
« on: January 26, 2011 - 01:58:15 PM »
The bottom hose mount on my radiator is on the opposite side of were the water pump is. Is there a hose or extension that goes from the bottom radiator across to the water pump? Thanks  :wavingflag:

Without more details, I'm not sure what your problem may be but from just a guess, you may have the same problem I had. A lot of folks that drop in a big block (440) in their E-body as I did use a motor from an old motor home. These have a larger capacity water pump and the inlet (or outlet, I can't remember) is opposite from a standard big block water pump. If you have an old RV block this may be your problem. I ended up replacing the water pump with a standard big block (440) water pump so it would properly mate up with my radiator. I don't know if you'll find a hose. Your best bet may be to replace the water pump or use an aftermarket radiator with an opposite inlet/outlet (if this is your problem). How about some more details. Is this for a big block or small block? Is your radiator a factory radiator?  :dunno:

I think my engine is from a 1968 B body ( not sure  though ) big block 440. The radiator I bought is the stock radiator they used on the 440 and 426 Hemi in 1970. My water pump, if standing in front of the car facing the engine, comes down and to the left, the radiator connection for the bottom hose is down and on the right. Do the make a hose for this or will I have to make a connection that goes across? Thanks all.

You definitely have a big block radiator. I hope they make a hose that will fit your needs. The water pump outlet is on the driver's side...at least in 1970.

you need a different water pump housing to make it a clean easy install. I got one if you want. 30 bucks plus shipping. This eliminates your future headache. Or maybe you can find one local.

Do I have to change the water pump or just the housing? Anybody have a picture of the housing? Thanks

Just the housing, if you want. 4 bolts holds the water pump to the housing. Then 6 bolts hold the housing to the block.  It's an easy fix.
