How can I find first registration date?
« on: September 05, 2011 - 03:14:51 PM »
Hi,

I live in Norway and over here we got some stupid rules. Imported cars that had license plates put on later than  1 april 1971, has to be 100% original. I have a 1971 Barracuda I want to put license plates on and the cars isn't 100% original. So the easiest would be to prove that the car got license plates on before 1st of April. The car is  planned produced 3 of december 1970 so it's probably registrated earlier than 1st of April 1971. The licence plates the car had in US was 812CUP and state was WA. Can anyone help me to find out where I can get this information??  And I need some kind of confirmation letter to show the inspectors.

Best Regards Jan

Call Wa state DMV, BUT...Be be prepared for the run around.  They dont just hand out previous owner or tag data

Also, alot of computer systems didnt go computer until about 1983 or so  Allot of older paper data wasnt even entered into the DMV system:  There was just too much paper to electrons tranfer that had to be done

The VIN is a big key to getting the help you need:  Maybe they can track it down.  But then you need soemone willing in the DMV to write a letter with the facts that would help you out:  Finidng someone willing to do that in DMV will be the hardest part

Sometime though, if you keep trying, you might ge ahold of a person in DMV that understand why you really need, and may help

A formal letter to the Wa DMV may help as well    Include in that letter a copy of every formal regulation that you must fullfill in your country  to register, and you might get help.

Persistance will get what you want.  But it wont be easy................In the furture, dont post your VIN on a public forum.  Its just good personnal security measure

Thanks for your reply. I have tried several persons at DMV and CARFAX without getting any further. But it seems like the Norwegian "DMV" will accept the production date, so the car will be registrated as a 1970 model. And then they can suddenly accept disc brakes on all 4 wheels, unisteer rack and pinion steering and other modifications.

Thanks Jan
