Reproduction Shaker hood; Any issues?
« on: March 19, 2011 - 09:43:13 PM »
Those that have bought reproduction Shaker hoods. What's your feedback on them?

What flaws did you have to deal with?
The steel rigidity?
Fit and finish?

Would you consider modding a flat to Shaker to have better results?

they initial hoods were crowned a bit on the right side from over clamping in production, missing the holes for the radiator seal. Since last prodcution run they have resolved supposedly those issue. Like all reproduction parts no 2 parts are a like. Will this be a bolt in and paint. No. WIll the hood need some massaging/blocking yes.  but it is still the best economical way vs. NOS or used. If you buy the kit, that is about 4 to 500.00 last time i checked, plus the labor to convert. Steel is comparable, fit and finish is good over all. Would i redo an original hood , NO not for what you can buy one for,  :2cents:

Do all the repro hoods have the crumple zones like 71-74.If they do and you are doing a 70 car  then a 70 flat hood would be correct.I did 2 conversions before the hoods came out and paid 750.00 for the kit. Yes. it was a ripoff, you will have 20-30 hours in a conversion from start to  ready for paint, and that is with a very good hood to start with.

unfortunately everything looks great until reality hits when the parts are fitted, Again,  you may or may NOT have any issues and might be able to just prime, block and paint,
