Hydraulic clutch question...............?

I am putting a new clutch and pressure plate in my car. I am wanting to put in a hydraulic throw out bearing or a slave cylinder like the ones used on the newer trucks. Does anyone have any feedback on doing something like this. I know the throw out bearings can get pricey. Like everyone I am on a budget with this ol car.

If your on a budget, modifiying oem always costs me more than expected.  That said, lots of the imports have used hydraulic clutch systems for years.
The main problem with them is eventually the master/slave cylinder seals leak, and then you loose all your pedal.  Many imports use a cable for RH drive, and a hydraulic for LH drive.   Talk to the guys in Australia, they love the fact that the cables never fail, whereas here in the US its continually checking for that eventual hydraulic leak.

The problem( with a hyd. throwout bearing) as stated above is "when" they leak the clutch disc is junk.  With a slave cyl if it leaks you just replace it no biggie.

I'm using a wilwood slave in my BB Buick, works ok clutch doesn't... :smilielol: My Challenger is a 727.

Chris,  The later model small blocks with the ball pivot bellhousing used a slave cylinder.  There is also a thread somewhere on Moparts where a guy posted some pictures of a setup he made with a bolt on slave cylinder on a standard bell housing.

Says he used a $20 slave cylinder from AutoZone


Many others on Moparts too, just search it.

Another guy said to mount it halfway down the fork to get more travel out of it.
