Documenting Builds

I've thought about it. I've occasionally snapped a picture here or there. I really respect those of you who can do it, but I gotta ask, how the heck do you do all the nuts and bolt documenting as you go through a build?  I mean,  my garage has dirty car parts, oil on things, greasy hands, dirty gloves, etc.  The last thing I'm thinking of when I'm elbow deep in an engine build and I find a bad part is, hey gotta snap a picture. Not only that, but I'd be afraid to pick up the camera with my hands in that condition.

So how do you guys do it, after the fact, have a friend along the way, or what?

after the fact and a reasonable good memory and 35yrs of knowledge and labeled coffee cans for the nuts and bolts if its a big job

I use the purple nitrite gloves.  After a few hours of work, I remove them and I snap the pics.
I havn't had many of these cars so I have only pulled a few apart.
Taking pictures is the only way I can make sure that I get the right nuts and bolts back to their original places.
The first few cuda's I purchased, didn't have much put together so I had to kind of wing it to get them back together.
My current car is the first I have taken full pictures of every bolt that was removed.

Honestly, the secret is the gloves. I keep a rag around with a little thinner and I can clean them up without taking them off.
Much easier than cleaning your hands every time you want to snap a picture.

Generally I do it after the fact.  If I'm trying to show some in progress steps then I either get my wife to take a few pictures or I bite the bullet and go get my hands cleaned up.   I enjoy it just because it allows people to learn from my many mistakes.

I wear cheap gloves and use an old camera in the garage.  Sometimes I'll just do the before and after pics, if I don't finish the project I'll take during pics.lol
