replace / repair driver side lap belt - 72 cuda
« on: April 11, 2011 - 11:47:16 AM »
Any body know where I can find a replacement, or have any experience trying to repair the retractor mechanism?

Mine is stuck - won't retract all the way and won't pull out more than about 6 inches, hitting a hard stop like when it is activated in a crash or hard decel.

Was flaky when I got the car a year ago, but seems to have gone all the way south now..........

:ylsuper:  found what I need at http://moparplus.com/product_info.php?products_id=1025

my first search of that site yielded nothing, but then I used a direct link from a yahoo search for "1972 barracuda seat belt retractor" and wound up with the above link.  sort of pricey, and I'd rather not have to buy a pair but...........

My retractor was hanging up but cleaning, silicone lube, and a tweak to the tension spring got it to working just fine.

72 Cuda Replica-

P.G. Classic is located in Canada.  They’re in partnership with Mike Ross of B/E&A Restoration Parts.
Link: http://www.beaparts.com/

I’ve ordered items from him several times, all good experiences.
- Still could use cheaper prices, though

Anyway, here’s his info.

Hope that helps,

I bought the upgrade seat belt that XV Motorsports makes.  Great improvement from the two piece original Mopar belt.  If you're into functionality not originality you might consider that.

My belts were dry and I feared they might actually fail in an accident.  Also the Mopar shoulder belt was fixed and not retractable so to reach under the dash or to the glove box you had to unsnap.  The XV belt lets you move and more comfortable.
