Go/Gull Wing Placement
« on: April 29, 2011 - 08:33:05 AM »
Hey guys,

Quick question. Is there a difference in the measurement of the spread between 1970 go-wing pedestals and 1971 gull-wing pedestals? Basically, will a 71 gull-wing mount (or interchange) to a 70 go-wing application? The pedestals are already mounted on a 71 but with the incorrect wing for the year (70).

Thanks,

Tom

Best guess:  I'm not at my car and maybe someone else will chime in, but I believe that if it is to factory specs ( Well made repro or factory wing, not a Ford wing or such.), the spread between pedestals should be the same for the '70 and '71 Go Wings.

Best way to check, if memory serves me right is to look under the trunk lid and you'll actually be able to see holes in the under trunk lid support metal.  Hold the pedestals (with the wing attached) up to the holes to see if they line up.

Thanks for the info Phil.
The wing is already attached (on a 71 cuda) but has the 70 version wing which later I would like to replace with the correct wing if the spacing of the pedestals is the same.
I don't have the cuda yet but here is a pic of what it looks like.

So anybody???

What is the measurement between the pedestals on a 71 cuda gull wing?
I searched the forum and google and couldn't find the answer.
Thanks,
Tom

My Mopar friend has a 71 Challenger and it had the 70 Spoiler
They are both interchangeable. He switched spoilers without any modifications.

Thanks for the info AARuFast.
I guess I am looking for specific measurements. It seems to be a secret.
I have a wing mounted priot to purchase but not sure what the original application was or is. I do know it's not a correct wing for the year, which is 71.
Actual measurements would be very helpful to help me here.
Anybody with a 71 Cuda gull-wing and a tape measure out there?

Thank you for the link.
But....
I am just needing a "measurement between the two pedestals". The instructions are great when installing one but I don't know what wing I have (already installed) versus a true 1971 gull-wing.
Just a nice little measurement between both pedestals of an already installed gull-wing from an owner of a 1971 cuda.
Thanks,
Tom

just measured mine at exactly 36.0" from bolt center to bolt center.
I cant guarantee mine is an original though (I believe it is) so hopefully someone else will confirm.

The finish on mine is a dark argent type texture.
The 71 is very different from the 70, especially when compared side by side.

Thank you very much Tommy!!!
That's what I was looking for. Perfect!!!  :cooldancing:  :bananasmi
Mine is also 36" on my 71 but has a wing that looks very much like a 70 wing.
I just wanted to verify before searching for the correct wing.
Thanks again for your response!!!

:iagree:     I also measured 36" on my 71 and I know it is an original wing. I would put the correct wing on or you will be constantly reminded by the puriest that you have the wrong one.    :nono:

Thank you for the verification bentpshrods,

And yes, that's what I was thinking too.
And since the measurement is correct for the pedestals, it will be an easy fix.
Thanks again for your input/verification.
