copper or platinum?
« on: April 07, 2011 - 06:22:50 PM »
I'm running champion RN9YC copper plugs now.  They are a bit too cool for my engine, so I'm going to change them out.
Would there be anything to gain by going with champion #3405 ....they have thin wire platinum electrodes vs the copper electrodes.

None that I am aware of. I have heard of some people complaining about NGK platinum plugs. Not a Champion plug but I don't know what the platinum is supposed to do for you.

The only advantage to a platinum plug is longer service life, about double the life expectancy. No noticeable gain in performance. :2cents:

Stick with the copper or any other "regular" tipped spark plug, platinum is a waste of money and our older style motors like a "fat" spark which the new style "thin" platinum don't give, they are designed for much wider gaps with much higher voltages.
RN9YC shouldn't give any problems unless you are just cruising around the streets or the carby is running a little bit rich, don't go hotter than RN11YC or when you do get onto an interstate they could cause problems.   :burnout:

well the platinum actually enhances the combustion chemically but I have not seen a performance difference using them , I would just use the Std copper plugs
