I had 15 pages (30 per page) of blocked registrations/requests yesterday and only 17 new accounts - 14 of which were blocked by the StopForumSpam mod. The ones that got through were added to my block lists (3 were hosting facilities) so my process is apparently working pretty well. Yes, it's a major pain and you can't let it go for very long before it gets overwhelming.

This may not be the right spot to do this....

Are we ever goignt o weed out the 0 post members ?

I know there are lurkers, but if you have been a member for 5 years and never even said hello, esp if you have not been back since the day you joined ... I would think they are gone.

Obviously this is not my site but... just because you have 0 posts doesn't mean you never use the forum. I am a member of several forums that I read regularly but only post when I feel I have something relevant to say (and after I get to know the "culture" of the forum - I hate to be the dumb newbie who says something inappropriate). Sometimes this takes a year or more. You have to be a member to send PMs so if you like the wheels on someone's car or some other modification they've done but don't want to clutter the board with a personal request for more info you have to register. Sometimes there are celebrities that don't want to be hounded once it's made public that they are lurking. In my experience, there are a large number of members with 0 posts that are "active". The spam accounts (before there was a good way to identify them) can obviously be pruned. From an administrator perspective, it's a lot of effort to accurately clear them out so what's the harm in leaving them?

i have no plans to clear out zero post members for a lot of the reasons troy summarized.  also it appears that asking a verification question closely related to our cars has chased the spammers off.  we havent recieved one registration from a suspicious person since.  so i may turn it back so they can register without my approval.  ill give it a few more days, but keep your eyes open and report asap if someone slips through.

Thank you so much Ross.  :clapping:

The spam was not so bad, but the porn was. I was scared to open the site at work when that was coming though.
