Pittman arm question
« on: May 17, 2011 - 12:08:26 AM »
I need a new pitman arm for my 72 Barracuda. Rockauto lists this one. MOOG K7076  Pitman Arm $56.79 it`s listed for 73-74 cuda/challengers. Will this work on a 72? I don`t see why it wouldnt just want to make sure.

I believe there was a design change for starting in '73. And if I remember right the change is a slight angle difference to the arm if you compare it to the older one.  Wish I could remember how much different, but it was noticeable when they were side by side.

Actually, I think the design change in '73 was in the size of the steering box output shaft - '73 and later pitman arms have a larger hole for the shaft.

:iagree:  The older (smaller diameter hole) parts are 3x the cost.  If you're thinking of switching steering boxes for a Firm Feel or similiar unit, now's the time to get the larger diameter unit.

But I have seen somewhere that the later boxes wear out much faster.  Something to do with not having the same sector adjustment I think I read  :dunno:

Thanks for the info guys you saved me the time and agravation of ordering the wrong part. My steering box seems ok so I hate to change it out just for this. PST sells the pitman arm I need for around $110 so thats not too bad.
