B-51 Power Brakes, Rstoration Finishes
« on: September 04, 2002 - 09:17:53 AM »
I have a 71 cuda.  Fender tag lists B-51 as an option code.  When I look this up it decodes as Power assist front dic brakes.  I know my car had power brakes, but I am certain the front drums are original.  They are the 11" drums.  Is this right?, Whick booster would this car use.  It is currently MIA.  Also had a question on the finish of the sfront spindles.  Should they be natyral along with other cast parts up front, or satin black.

Hey! First of all nice car! Is that the one that was on ebay about 6 months ago? From S.California I believe?

Anyway, Are you 100% certain the car came with drums? If so, how do you know this?

It is possible that your car came with drums even though coded for disc's, I've seen it before but it's always been considered a factory mistake. The booster part# is the same for any disc brake E-body (except for Hemi) I'll try to get you a part# later.

The spindles themselves were always natural as cast steel. Some were dipped in cosmoline but this was only for temporary rust prevention while assembly took place, it usually wore off pretty fast and they rusted on the surface.

Power brakes - Required option with front disc brakes option.
I got that here:

Do you also have B-31 or B-42 as well?
It doesn't mean it has disc. Do you have any other b-codes?

Thanx for the reply sixpackcuda.  No I do not have any other B options on my car.  Do you think the 11" brakes are correct on my car.  If so what master cyliber and booster do I use.  Not the bendix hemi one is it?  My car is a pilot car, some od combos.  If I had 11" beakes should it not have anothe B option?

I don't think anybody would go from disk to drum on purpose.  My 70 Cuda has non-power front disk!!??
What motor is in your Cuda? I know when you got the 340 option it came with 15" wheels and disk brakes.
Who knows, it could have been built on a Friday! I found an AAR broadcast sheet behind my front seat.
I'll look in my parts exchange book when I get home.
