Parking light/turn signal

I'm missing the tab in the socket that the light bulb makes contact with on my left parking/turn signal light.  How does the socket come out of the housing and can I get a new one?  Weird how it affects the lighting.  The rear signals work although rapidly.  The front left with the missing tab parking light works but not the turn signal.  The front right parking light is significantly brighter than the left (bad) one.  The front right turn signal won't work on the turn signal but will work on the emergency flasher.  Seems like the socket just rotates in the housing.

Although the ground may not be good, does't the little button I'm missing at the inside bottom inside of the socket provide the power?  It looks like it became disconnected from the wire and fell out.  I'm pretty sure I need to replace the socket.  Does it separate from the housing?

Sockets for the turn signals should have 2 small "buttons" like you describe.  One is for the + parking lights and the other is for + turn signal.  The rest of the housing needs to be grounded to complete the circuit.  If you are missing one of the wires or if the "button" got pulled out it's not going to work.  Depending on the specific damage you may need to replace the whole socket. 

When one of the bulbs in the flasher circuit isn't working (either burnt or bad connection) the other one on that side will flash fast.  It's to let you know something is wrong.  If the bulb is dim, it's usually a bad ground, or the bulb is getting old and has buildup on the glass that acts like tint and makes it dark.

My suggestion is see if you can find another socket that works and give it a shot.  Good luck!

Does it separate from the housing?

It wasn't designed to, but you can pry up the lip with a screwdriver and light tapping. I found a replacement socket that worked reasonably well in one of those 'universal parts' racks. Easy to tell it's not original from behind if that is important to you though.

If you need to replace the entire socket, check out if any of these match up with your stock one.

Otherwise if you just need to replace the brass button you can use one of these and just splice in the wire (you can also find these either in the electrical section or the "help" section of your local parts store).  Just use the wire.  The fiber washers are pretty cheesy compared to the original style plastic ones.

This site used to see just the brass lamp button by itself, but not I can find it on the site now.  When I re-wired my tail lights, I bought just the buttons and ran the wires right to the buttons.
