hood spring removal

Whats the easiest way to remove the hood springs from mt chally?  just got a T/A hood and i dont wanna warp it with my steel hood springs

and the hinges are already removed from the car

I use a couple of BIG screw drivers wedged in the springs to pry them apart/strech them.

tigh a rope to it and pull... they are not that heavy.

Yes this works but I've also used vise-grips.  They are not as tough as they look.

If the hinges are off the car you might bolt them on temporarily then use a fan belt to pull the spring off the hinge. A fan belt works great for reinstalling the springs as well.
