Park/neutral starting switch-three prong-long style
« on: August 31, 2011 - 04:42:41 PM »
I keep having problems with this switch.  When I bought the car, it had to be manually grounded to start.  The problem was in the switch so I bought one from Rock Auto and it worked one time.  Looking at it led me to believe the plastic insert and center prong was not popping out under spring pressure to make a good contact with the contact in the tranny.  Bought another one and it worked for a year until I pulled the engine and tranny.  Now it does not work.  Looking at it shows the same problem, the plastic nose is not emerging from the body of the switch...it stays flush with the body.

Anyone encounter this problem and is there a brand that seems to be more reliable?

This was Terry's reply from some time ago.  I went ahead and ordered a Standard brand a bit earlier today.  I still don't know why the switches are failing, but for whatever it is worth, here it is

Buy a new switch and replace it,it will work fine.
