Windsheild question
« on: April 29, 2011 - 02:41:45 PM »
Hello All,

I am installing a new windsheild. Is the bottom edge of the windsheild supposed to rest on the cowl or are there supposed to be "stops" screwed in? There isn't a whole lot of room to slide the windsheild toward the roof before it hits the studs that hold the trim clips.

Thanks Robert

There are oblong triangular rubber pieces that fit into the weird shaped areas of the cowl to space the windshield up off the cowl, I think most are long gone after so many years. If you buy a windshield install kit from an autoparts store, generic square spacer blocks come with it (autozone sells the kits for about $15) or just make some yourself out of rubber

You don't want it touching the steel anywhere as it can create a point load which causes it to crack (ask me how I know).

Also, think about the depth of whatever sealer you use and the thickness of the glass (which may be thinner than factory) or the screen surface may lay lower than the trim.  I got quite a gap on mine and even using shorter A body trim clips I couldn't completely get rid of it  :banghead:
