Originality And Dynamat: Opinions?
« on: May 26, 2011 - 01:49:22 PM »
I have a 1970 R/T which is all original, numbers matching and just received a new Plum Crazy coat of paint.  On one hand, when I drive it, it's more noisy in the pass compartment than I'd like, but everyone says to stick with the exhaust because it sounds great (which it does).  On the other hand, it's obviously not a daily driver, so is it worth it to go to the expense of sound deadening.

I realize that there are folks out there who just like to listen to the exhaust, but that just not me.

My question is about putting down DynaMat (I'm not considering any other sound deadening material because I find DynaMat works best).  My understanding is that once it's down, it's not coming back up.  What is everyone's opinion about the car losing value due to adding DynaMat that I cannot remove?
Stay thirsty my friends!

Do it in the areas that no one will see and it will have absolutely no negative impact on the value of the car.  If anything, it might raise it slightly.  There are a lot of people who want a musclecar (because they're cool), not realizing that they're tempermental, loud and hot by comparison to today's cars.  You just mitigated 1, maybe 2, of those realities.

Put it behind the door and quarter interior panels, above the headliner and under the carpet.  If you want, you could hide it on the passenger compartment side of the trunk divider and underneath the jute insulation on the firewall.

it depends on the the car as well , if it is not #s matching / highly desirable you should be fine , my question has always been about panel replacement or repair down the road , I bought Be Quiet insulation but sold it again & did not use it , I used a sheet of factory rubber from a similar later model vehicle under the carpet instead

I have Dynamat under the carpet and under the headliner and I can tell you that the floor Dynamat has made a huge difference in reducing road noise.

I just put Hush-mat in my car this winter, I used it because it is alot easier to work with than Dyno-mat (no cuts at all to my fingers)  :2thumbs: I did 2 layers from the fire-wall back to the trunk divider,1 side of the trunk divider both doors and the areas below the side back windows and it made a big difference. I took my time and got probably 99% coverage.  :working: You can`t see any of it unless you lift the rug or take off panels. It is worth it and you can still hear the exhaust if you want, but at a much quieter level.  :bigshades:  :burnout: Also the Hush-mat is alot cheaper than Dyno-mat. You can get it with the silver backing or black.  :2cents: And like said before, if you can`t see it, it won`t hurt it.

I have a numbers matching TA and struggled with the same question and in the end, I went with Fat Mat and am glad I did.  I don't have my car back together yet, but I can tell just from tapping on the roof and the underside that it is going to be a lot quieter, tighter and cooler and none of it will ever show.  Unless you are doing a concourse restoration, I don't believe you can go wrong and if you or a new owner decides differently at some point down the road--- it is removeable, with a degree of difficulty.
