Auto Console Bracket Measurements
« on: May 14, 2011 - 10:22:48 PM »
It's been covered here a lot in years past; but unfortunately the old threads have missing / broken pictures :(

I'm looking for the measurement of the shifter bracket taken from the front bracket that the linkage bolts to.  Left to right seems straight forward with the bracket I have.  I just need the front to back measurement.

I'm pretty sure I have the rear bracket (that goes between the front pan and the rear foot wells) figured out as well, but an overall measurement from the front bracket to the back one wouldn't hurt either.

I don't have measurements, but these pictures might help you.

Wagesofsin (John) just offered templates for this very thing less than a week ago.
Look  in the Interior section.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I don't trust measurements for that.  In my case, I used my actual conlsole, centered over my installed 4-speed boot and shifter, and had my seats in to center it.  I didn't want to have any surprises after I cut my carpet in, then find out that I had to cut the welds out then reweld the brackets.  It has to be more exact with a slapstick console.  Install it first.

SD,

I agree with you... however, in my case wouldn't I pretty much need to put the tranny / motor in as well if I went to that extreme?  I can eyeball where it needs to be from TC's photo.  I'm ready that 1/4" can make a difference in some of the old threads so that has me worried.

I'll look into the templates WOS has.  I hadn't noticed that thread (I feel like I'm a LONG way off of interior!)  :)

Thanks guys,

Jon

I would wait if it was me. You'll have to mock the eng and trans sooner or later anyway.

What was the fore/aft factory tolerance?

+/- 3/4" ?

+/- 1" ?

Not to mention the 2-3" of adjustment in the trans linkage.

These are 70's cars, not space shuttles.
