Rear window defroster - worth adding on?
« on: September 29, 2004 - 06:20:50 AM »
I have seen a couple of units on Ebay and was wondering how well those work? Do these units just blow fresh air at the base of the back glass or what? I see the ducting and motor assembly, but I dont see a source of cool air or heat. Is there a small coil system built into the blower assembly?

Its a self contained unit with the heating element and a small blower.

Never seen one used. you could add a rear air piece also, but it might not fit in the trunk. there very large from the Full size cars.

I'm pretty sure that I still have a complete rear defrost unit in a box in the basement.  Took it off when I went 'tubbed'.  Mostly black plastic tubing, and a motor unit.  (and dust and cobwebs)

Are these actually worth anything, nowadays??

Here is one that I missed; included the blower assembly, duct, vent bezel and original 4-switch panel for the LH side dash.

Let me know if you decide to sell it

I wouldn`t use it , it takes up the right rear speaker hole , you need a different switch panel with the extra switch & ho woften are you still going to drive these cars in the snow or cold

I think it would be a nice option to have; I'm guessing that few would use it a lot but you never know. Also, though rare, there was an adapter kit made that allowed that option to coexist with dual 6x9's in the back. Ck it out:

yes, if anyone has the blower and 6x9 to a single 6x9 adapter, let me know. I already have the single standard adapter but would like to keep my dual 6x9's in back

There was just one up on E-bay last week with the speaker extension housing.
Wanted to get it for my '73, but was unsure if it was actually for a 'Cuda......DOH!  :banghead:
The Ralley dash Im putting in has the defroster switch, so I need the unit I guess?
There are several units up w/o the extention housing tho.

yes, it looks like the speaker/vent combo adapters are getting quite pricey. The last couple I have seen closed at $200 or more
