Is there anybody local to you that would let you borrow their tire/rim set up to try one of the other? Are you affiliated with the local mopar club? Given the popularity of 255 and 275 combos, I'd think there is someone close by you could swap on a set and let you try them just to put you rmind at ease about the difference.
Unfortunately, not really......no one local I know well enough to ask them for such a huge favor....

I guess I can always swap them back out and sell them if I hate them....

Just a PITA.....

Another variable here is that I am swapping in the taller fronts too.....seeing where the car sits and then maybe raising the front just a smidge.......getting it aligned that way and seeing how she does......swapping out rears would mean another front tweak and then realignment.

I guess thats just part of the process....LOL

SO finally decided to pull the trigger on the 275s....call the Firestone dealer who originally quoted me for them and the 235s.

He calls the main warehouse and .......they are not available.

<sigh>

He is making some calls to see what he can find.....

...........nothing can be easy.   :banghead:

...and the good old stand bys of Summit and Jegs.

last time I  checked, Summit had something like 20 different and unique tires in the 275 and 295 sizes.

Considered tire rack and summit, but since I am not buying rims too I would have to find someone locally to install...then if the tire has issues or needs serviced/warrantied, what then?

Hoping the dealer can come thru for me.

Just looked on tire rack "fewer than 7", and $20 more each than the dealer for the 275s.

The 235s are backordered...no date given.

I've bought at least 8 sets of tires from Tirerack over the years. Look at their preferred installer list for your area. Warranty is on the tire and Tirerack will work with you to get BFG, Goodyear, etc to peacefully resolve. You're over-thinking again.

Have you considered 295/50R15's?

LOL

Just  that I've "been there done that"......seems like when you go somewhere for warranty service , you always get better service if you bought the "whatever" there first. Have had third party situations like this (car warranty comes to mind) and it was a PITA to get a local dealer to broker the relationship because I bought the car and warranty at another dealership miles away.

Chances are very good that the year part of the tire warranty would expire before the mileage part, so its force of habit I guess.....but still I like to give as much business to local folks if I can.....

In any event, tire rack says the 235s are backordered....plus the extra $20/tire.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Havent heard back from the dealer yet....hoping he can make it work....

There is another chain place localy that has the tires advertised at $147 EACH (versus the $97 at Firestone)......ouchie.

I will ask the dealer about that option when he calls back if he cant find them thru his own route.

If they have them in-stock, ask them to price-match the "to your door" cost...Tirerack.com price plus shipping vs local price plus tax.  I've found that a lot of people who are reluctant to compete with Internet pricing will make the effort if I factor shipping into the competing cost.

They may not match, but they'll usually make the effort to come closer.

Got the new tires on!

So far i like them a lot.   Rides smoother , for sure.

Does seem to take a bit of the edge off of the low end though......looks like a different came or higher gears and overdrive may be in my future...LOL

I cranked the t-bars up a bit to get teh front end up some....I think she looks pretty good now....havent had her aligned yet so performance in the corners etc TBD.

Make sure when you get the alignment you use the specs on this site.  Tell the mechanic to ignore what the computer with 1970's specs in the database tells him.

Thats my plan...of course thats what I did last time and I got the outside edges worn down.

The shop I am going to this time has ben around for 50-60 years and does nothing but alignments....and they came highly recommended on the abodies forum....so crossing my fingers.

Its been tough not having the car to drive this weekend...LOL...ended up doing all sorts of yard and garage catch-up work...
