Gurgling sound from the gas tank/rear of car?
« on: May 30, 2011 - 10:31:45 PM »
I was out tearing up some asphalt tonight , when I got back and went to close the garage door I heard a gurgling sound. Took me a minute or so to figure out it was coming from the rear of the car. Gas tank or the CA emmissions tube thing in the trunk? I had just filled it right up if that gives any clues? Anyone else noticed this?
I cracked open the gas tank and it did have slight pressure built up? The other end of the emissions do-hickey is open in the engine bay? I have a 2 pronged valve cover breather to install, just haven't got around to it? So the hose is just tucked into the innear fender.

Need to vent the gas cap?  I drilled a small hole in the rubber gasket of a locking cas cap I have that wasn't vented.  :dunno:

Only time I hear gurgling under the Dodge is when my cat is puking up a mouse.  :eek4:

The Ca emmission gas cap should be vented. Maybe something in the vapor line is plugged also.

I thought with the CA emmissions tube thing in the trunk that a non-vented cap cap was the correct ? I'm wondering if the gurgling was because I filled it right up and the fuel was expanding in those 2 tubes going into that bigger tube in the trunk , then returning? :dunno: There wasen't a lot of pressure there.

The emissions cap should NOT be vented.  That would defeat the purpose of the emissions system.

Hmmm.. mine is vented however I do recall buying a replacement at the dealer back in the eightys. Sorry for any confusion.

Possibly a vented cap is needed in your situation Brad. Do you smell fuel in the garage?

It only does it when I fill her right up full. Must have something to do with expansion/temperature ? I shudder to think what the inside of that tube thing in the trunk looks like.... :scared:  Thanks goodness for fuel filters?  :grinyes:

For what it's worth our quad makes a gurgling from the fuel vent tubes up by the headlight with occationally a strong smell of fuel. Never a problem though. :dunno:
