440 0il pan Mods

Im tossing up whether to buy a new oil pan or just modify my standard one by adding wings.
I have a standard stroke milodon windage tray i want to use,so may as well change both at once.
I like the ground clearance i have now. By going to a larger sump i lose about 2" of clearance.
Or if i bought a hemi sump,it has a baffle and still a lot of ground clearance.
I want to do some drag racing as soon as i have some teething problems out of the way,this is why im looking at the oil pans.
What are your thoughts?
Anyone got pics of their modified oil pan?

I welded boxes on the sides of my oil pan instead of deepening it, I ended up with 11 qt capacity !! The Milodon road race pan is similer but I think it needs to be installed once the engine is in place in the car

Wow :eek2: Thats a lot of oil CP!!!!! I was looking for another litre or so.....
Im thinking i might just track down a 2nd hand hemi sump.....
I wont rev over 6000rpm.
Would i be alright to use the standard milodon windage tray with the hemi sump?
Not too much baffleing?

the plates inside the hemi pan stop sloshing so the oil will stay in the sump , the windage tray separates the the turbulance from the crank from the sump so it doesn't tend to lift the oil in the sump , they are designed to work together , if you want to be more effective use a crank scraper as well to cut the excess oil off the crank .
 with my modified pan I was shifting at 7200 rpm with the front wheels well of the ground leaving the starting line & never had a brg problem in 9 years . All I did was add a box to each side of the sump & figured I would gain 2-3 qt capacity , I also added a plate at the rear of the sump angled slightly downward to keep the oil in the sump , I kept the stock ground clearance but misjudged the anticipated 7-8 qt capacity by 3 qts !!

Ok. I've decided to just add to my standard sump. I will keep the same depth so I keep my pickup and will add wings and put a plate at the back to stop the oil sloshing back.

I started on my pan today. I mocked up the wings roughly. They are all tacked together and then i trial fitted it to the motor.
1/4" clearance on driver side and 1/2" on pass side.
Not sure how much oil it will add? Wont know till i fill it up  :thumbsup:
Im guessing around 1 to 1.5 litres.....     1 litre is 1.05 quarts in yankee language  :cheers:

Chryco, Have a pic of that one? I'm not spending $445.00 for a Milodon pan.  :22yikes:  11 qts is a little over the top, but only a little. I like lots of oil available to my motor.
My 3500 diesel 1 ton takes 10 qts.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it!

Punisher, you might want to add some baffels in there as well to help keep oil from climbing the walls during acelleration, braking, and cornering.

There is more to a good oil pan than just capacity. Like CP said, there are different pieces that serve different roles in controlling the dynamics of the oil in motion.

How do i do that HP2? CP did say to put a plate to the rear of the sump? Would this be a 1" strip down near where the pickup is all the way across?

I'd put a 1 to 1.5" shelf just down past the radius that goes to the sump, around all four sides if this is a street car.  A windage tray is also a good addition. It is worth a 5 horsepower gain as low as 3500 rpm and more as the revs increase.

Cheers HP2. I added a piece to the back only as i want to go fast in straight lines only.  :burnout:
I also fitted a milodon windage tray.
Havent filled with oil yet,just finished fitting it all back together tonight.
