HP2 -

car has all factory pulleys.
I do not know the details of the pump impeller.
I was planning on taking it out when I removed the radiator.  If it is a 6 blade, I will change to a 8 blade.

I really think the radiator is the culprit.  There was a noticable amount of scalling around the tubes I could see, plus there were sevral tubes that were clogged.

Will keep you all posted ..

okay - ready for more info....

the radiator - back when the car was restored - was recored with a misserable ass 4 row core...   ARGH!
Plus - alot of the tubes are clogged with some kind of white junk.  Whn I tipped it over to completely empty it - some nasty crap came draining out.

So ---   radiator goes off to Wisconson  to get a complete restoration/new core using my tanks etc...
$600 bucks out the door ----

So I figure, what the hell - take out the water pump to check the impeller.  It is an aftermarket pump with 8 blades.  Only big problem - the damn impeller was bent when mounted.  So it travels all sorts of weird up/down directions..

can't catch a friggin break.........


Question---
where can I get my hands on a 8 blade pump that is a mopar pump?

It sounds like you are on the right track(thinking positive here).

The radiator and water pump are the two biggest problem areas. Could this be the water pump you are looking for?

hey all ....


Well I got the car under control ....      :bananasmi

Here are the things I had to correct to stop the over heating.

1.   I had a 3 row core with 5/8" tubes on 1/2" centers built for the radiator tanks/brackets.  It was also increased to 2.5" wide.
2.  Set the initial timing to 5 degrees advanced.  I also backed the screw in the vac. adv. can ccl 1.5 turns.
3.  Turned out that the center carb had 59 jets and an odd power valve, so I put 64 jets and a 6.4 PV.  Did a complete rebuilt/clean on all three carbs.
4.  purchased a high flow water pump from SUMMIT.

I can now drive the car all day long in 95-99 degree weather and in town or HWY, it runs around 180-195.....    :dogpile:


Plus as an added bonus - after messing with the jets,PV and timing - I can run pump gas and no pinging under any load.
The surging I would feel around 2500-3200 RPM also went away - now the car is smooth at any RPM.
The new water pump and thicker core moved the fan 3/8" closer to the radiator.
