See the picture of the grille assembly above.

I think they just wanted to differentiate dark green w/puke green (FJ6) by calling the latter avocado.  I think sassy grass was Plymouth's name, and Dodge had something else.  Maybe avocado was to be more generic.

Looks like in 1970, you can get both front and rear bumpers (A22) in all nine colors:

Now that interesting. Conventional wisdom has it that A22 elastomeric rear bumper was only available in FE5 Rallye Red.

Sure enough look what I found

And there's the A22 on the fender tag.

What's going on here? Looking at the fender tag this car's SPD was April 2nd. Maybe Mopar expanded the color options for the elastomeric rear bumpers mid year along with the introduction of the "spring colors"? :dunno:

And then you have this '71 with elastomeric bumpers front and rear in a color that was not suppose to be available - GY8 Gold Leaf - another "custom"? :dunno:

Here's the link to the Mecum ad. It has a pic of the broadcast sheet but it's too fuzzy for me to make out.

A good marketing one they should've used instead would be...."Holy Gaucamole"

That purple 1970 is valid.  Should have 9 available colors to have A22.

I think it was 1971 was FE5 only for awhile, then later, added 3 more colors for rear bumpers.

Yea, think that gold 71 is custom.

1. The '70 Dealer Data Book (DDB) states that the elastomeric bumper was available in nine different colors for the front bumper and only in red for the rear bumper.

2. The '71 "DDB" states that the color choices for the elastomeric front bumper was reduced to six different colors but the choices for the rear bumper were expanded to four.

3. The '71 "DDB" also states that the grille was available in nine different colors keyed to the body color of the car.

4. Lastly I didn't see anything in the '70 "DDB" concerning the availability of having a color keyed grille, nor do I ever remember seeing one on a '70. Just because I didn't see it in the "DDB" or remember seeing one doesn't necessarily mean it didn't exist - I don't remember ever seeing a "mod-top" myself either but those crazy things are out there! So, does anyone know if a color keyed grille was available in '70 and if so, what colors they may have been available in?

So here is what I have so far.

'70 front bumper colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)EB5 Blue; 4)TX9 Black; 5)Rallye Red; 6)EF8 Ivy Green; 7)EW1 White; 8)FY1 Lemon Twist; 9)FJ5 Limelight

'71 front bumper colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GB5 Blue Fire; 4)TX9 Black; 5)GY3 Curious Yellow; 6)FJ6 Sassy Grass Green

'71 rear bumper colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GY3 Curious Yellow; 4) :dunno:

'71 grille colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GB5 Blue Fire; 4)TX9 Black; 5)GY3 Curious Yellow; 6)FJ6 Sassy Grass Green; 7)GW3 White; 8)FE5 Rallye Red; 9)GK6 Autumn Bronze? :clueless:

'70 grille color(s) other than Argent Silver and black for AAR's? :dunno:

Experts??

Okay, trying to nail this down so lets recap what we know:

'70 A21 front bumpers came in nine colors to include: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)EB5 Blue; 4)TX9 Black; 5)Rallye Red; 6)EF8 Ivy Green; 7)EW1 White; 8)FY1 Lemon Twist; 9)FJ5 Limelight

'70 A22 rear bumpers were originally only available in FE5 Rallye Red but at some point in the model year the available colors were expanded to include: 1)FE5 Rallye Red; 2)EV2 Tor Red; 3)FC7 In Violet and possibly the other six colors available on the front bumpers.

'70 body color keyed grilles were not available - grilles were gray on all but the AAR's which were black

'71 A21 front bumper colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GB5 Blue Fire; 4)FE5 Rallye Red; 5)GY3 Curious Yellow; 6)FJ6 Sassy Grass Green

'71 A22 rear bumper colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GY3 Curious Yellow; 4)FE5 Rallye Red

'71 grille colors: 1)EV2 Tor Red; 2)FC7 In Violet; 3)GB5 Blue Fire; 4)FE5 Rallye Red; 5)GY3 Curious Yellow; 6)FJ6 Sassy Grass Green; 7)GW3 White; 8)GK6 Autumn Bronze; and 9)GF7 Sherwood Green?

As for the '70 A22 rear bumper, the overwhelming majority of the ones that I have seen are all FE5 Rallye Red. However, I have also now seen a couple of A22 coded cars in FC7 In Violet and EV2 Tor Red. Has anyone else seen a coded A22 car with a rear bumper in other than FE5 Rally Red, FC7 In Violet or EV2 Tor Red?? Got pics??

As for the '71 grille colors, has anyone ever seen a GF7 Sherwood Green grille?? Got pics??
Cheers!
