Flat tappet oil selection?

Well it is time to take out the breakin oil in my stroker motor so I need to select an oil to use that . . .  of course has all the needed minerals.  I also want to have the oil available without shipping and hopefully at a reasonable price . . . am I asking to much? 

So I went down to the local auto parts and there are some choices.  Most is 10w-50 and there are also some additives that you can add into regular oil but not sure if I want to go that route or not.  Looking for all opinions good or bad please.

valvoline racing is usually available.  If you have really stout valvesprings, you might add a can of additive to be sure.

Valvoline Racing has the ZDDP! Last year advance had a good sale on it... I stocked up!

I've been using the Valoline racing oil. Not cheap though.... but going fast costs money, how fast do you want to go?

Still chasing some bugs but seems to be running pretty good.  Haven't got on it too much yet as I'm still in the break in period.   Need to work on my thermostat issue and a few other small problems.   So far so good though . .  .


Actually I saw the alt-z in one of the local auto part stores.  Do you then use regular oil?

No , the Z - Alt is formulated to do the job , no additives or regular oil used with it

4Cruizn, A few of us around here use shell rotella oil, I did use valvoline racing vr1 10w30, but switched to shell rotella, I called shell lubricants and they told me it has a high zinc content I think it was 1300 ppm, and also called valvoline racing and they told me that valvoline vr1 has 1600 ppm zinc, rotella seems to work good with high performance engines I've use it in, alot of the round track racers here use it now and its cost is less than vr1 oil.

this is what the Valvoline site says....more in line with the oil analyses I have seen posted
