I did the conversion on mine right on my kitchen table.  It was pretty easy with the directions, but I didn't reinstall the face myself.  I was sending my cluster to AutoInstruments for refinishing anyhow, so I let Gentry set the tiny rivets.  I couldn't think of a way to do it without marring them.

I used that kit. Careful with the needles.
Clock has worked fine for the last three years after the conversion.

In case you're not aware, the clock's second hand is a continuous sweep with that kit. It doesn't "tick" every second like the original. I'm pretty sure the new re-pops "tick" every second if that's important to you.

I did the conversion over the summer. There is a slip clutch on one of the gears that the directions says should turn freely. I was confused as to what they meant by turning freely. Mine seemed to turn with a lot of friction even though their was no sign of being gummed up with dirt or corrosion. They show you how to make it turn freely by putting a small screwdriver between the clutch spring and gear. I did that, BIG MISTAKE! I got mine to turn freely alright but the clock wouldn't keep the right time. I called them and they told me the friction between the clutch spring and gear is critical to keeping the right time and is preset at the factory. They agreed the directions were a little misleading and were in the process of rewriting them so they were more clear. I had to buy a new part. It was only $10 but I screwed up a perfectly good part. Just a word of caution. The install went well and was pretty easy except the little spring clips are a big pain to get on the posts. After I got the clock back together and was putting it back in the dash one of the spring clips popped off. So now I have only two holding the clock together. Should be fine.
