Flushing Engine With it Out Of The Car

Hey guys Im in the middle of restoring my 71 Challenger and I'm on to painting short block.  When I removed it from the car everything was fine and the antifreeze was a clean green.  Do you think I need to flush it some way and how do I go about doing it if to with it being on the stand?  I've had no problems with it and I don't want to do it with it in the car after it's been painted. 

I'm sure it will be fine but can I flush it with the engine on the stand?  Thanks

Should be able to flush it with a water hose. I would remove the thermostat, and stick the hose into your water pump housing and flush it. If you take the thermostat out and stick the stat housing back on the motor. You could put a hose on it to control the mess. Hope this helps you out.

I would knock out the welsh plugs, you will be amazed at how much crud and casting sand that accumulates at the bottom of the water jacket. Flush out with a hose, you may even want to loosen up the crud with a screw driver or similar item, blow out after with a air nozzle. Replace the welsh plugs with brass and you will never have another one leak again.
Don't turn motor upside down as you don't want any crud going up into the cylinder head area and don't blow crud forward towards the water pump.   :2thumbs:
