Front end body parts weight
« on: June 24, 2011 - 06:15:36 AM »
Anyone know the weight of a stock front end?  I have a 1970 Challenger with a fiberglass tilt nose. Total weight is 107# with grill and headlights. Anyone know how much stock parts weigh in steel? (the hood, fenders, valance, bumper brackets, inner fender panels, radiator support, etc)

A lot.

On dodgecharger.com one member has done this exercise with a bunch of Charger parts. Not exactly the same as Challenger parts, but it may give you a resonable ball park estimate.

I would ask Mopar Dave from Roseville, or one of the other sales guys. They ship this stuff all the time, so they could probably give you a close estimate.

I recently swapped some parts on my challenger and weighted the parts to calculate the diff.
Steel R/T hood-78lbs
Bumper brackets-13lbs per side
I removed the brace inside the bumper but your 70 doesn't have that piece. 19lbs
and the 73 5mph rubber bumpers 4lbs each.
Can't help on the fenders, valance or rad support.

I like that tilt nose. Can you show pictures of the hinges and tell how it was done? I would like to do that to my car. rusty
