Challenger Rear Brake Hose - Part#s
« on: January 06, 2003 - 05:43:48 PM »

I just did a search for a rear brake hose for my '70 challenger. At first I thought I would have to use one of the repro companies due to no luck with local parts stores. The problem was/is: 1970 is bad year to use to look up parts at local parts stores.
My local Autozone store came up with a match using 1971! Later years (72-74) seem to work as well.
The part# at Autozone is 88500 (Bendix).
The package also has reference to other part numbers for the other brands. They are as follows:
Wagner: F37565
Raybestos: BH35017
EIS: SP3498

This hose is an almost dead-on match to the original. One end has a slightly different shape but you wouldn't know it without having the original. The hose is $17.00. $10.00 cheaper than YearOne. Nothing against YearOne however. They have parts that we need that you can't get just anywhere.

... 8 years later...

i have  post:

i bought the 88500 hose from AutoZone, and the MTEE01 from Inline Tubes.  i wondered why i was getting a leak, until i discovered that the thread count on the hose (20) did not match the thread count on the Tee (24).

AutoZone has no 1970 rear hose listed, just the 1971 & up.  did Ma Mopar change the thead from fine (24) to coarse (20) between 70 & 71? Later units are the all-in-one with hose & tee manufactured together.  i can use it, but obviously it would not be 'correct' for 1970.  Inline Tube had two different part numbers:  70 (MH-911) & 71 (MH-650).  i sent them an e-mail, but being Sunday, it won't be until later that i hear from them.

anybody know? :dunno:

update:

i haven't heard back from Inline Tubes.  I did go to AutoZone where i had ordered two hoses.  the first hose was a front drum hose that had the correct thread count (24), but the fitting was different.  not that it couldn't have worked, but compared to the other part that i ordered (77184Z), which is the all in one unit (Standard for 73 & 74), i opted to go with the all-in-one.

i figure it is one less connection point to be a potential cause for a leak.  other than not having a hex shape at the connection point, it looks pretty close to the two-piece set up.

i still would like to know why there were two different thread set-ups.  if anyone knows, that would be helpful. :clueless:

I bought my rear hose from Pep Boys, no problems, it is possible that somebody has changed the other lines in the last 40 years. Now the front was a different outcome, I was sold what turned out to be '71 front hoses which are different, '70 had a few one model parts especially the disc brake calipers. Of course I didn't find out until I was back in Australia.   :faint:
