Am I missing part of my rear license plate bracket?
« on: July 19, 2011 - 04:59:05 PM »
73' Challenger-

Currently my rear plate is being held on only with the two lower screws...

Basically I have the inverted "V" shaped bracket that the plate screws to the bottom of but no provision for the other two top screws.

Am I missing a part?

Nope.   It is held on by 2 screws.

Nice. So my cool 6PACKNV plate is destined to just flop around as I blast down the road.

Outstanding.

Guess it might be time to fab in a top brace / mounting point, as it drives me nuts that it's not on there securely. :-\

Why isn't the plate tightening up?  The two screws should hold it tight.  Maybe you need some new plastic inserts for the V bracket.  You could also just use some double sided tape on the rest of the V to hold the plate better.

You really don't need the upper screws.  I used to use a screw and a nut for looks.  Have you mounted the tag?  The bracket is welded in such a way that the tag won't move.  The tag itself is rigid enough that it won't flex or bend.

Good idea.

No, the plate is on there "securely," but without the top held down, it does lean out a bit and I've noticed a bit of distortion of the plate over the years. California plates are not that rigid. Not sure how other plates are.
