Front disc brake conversion
« on: July 22, 2011 - 12:15:55 PM »
Hello everyone,

This question was probably asked a million times already.  Sorry to repeat.  Looking to do a front disc brake conversion on my 70 Barracuda.  It currently has the factory 10" drum set up.  Anyway, here is my question.  There seems to be quite a few vendors who offer kits but I'm not sure who is reputable.  Who have you used?  And why?  Master Power Brakes, SSBC, Summit Racing, Right Stuff, PST, etc. are just a few that I looked into.   I'm not looking for cross drilled/slotted rotors or fancy red powder coated calipers.  Not necessary for me.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mike

I just finished a Right Stuff install on my 72 Challenger. Over all a very nice kit. Here's a pic of the installed brakes:

The kit is essentially the 73-76 A-body disc upgrade, spindle included. I only had two problems, the included banjo washers for the hoses at the calipers were too big (larger than the machined area on the caliper), and both dust shields needed one of the bolt holes opened up a bit to be able to mount them on the spindle. Not sure if the spindles are mis-drilled for the bolts or the shields are mis-punched. Would need a stock A-body dust shield to know for sure. Both very minor problems though. The included bearings are no-name Chinese bearings, when I tear apart the car to completely restore it in a couple of years, I'll replace those for sure.

Again, the kit was very nice other than the above minor points. The instructions were great, good descriptions and matching pictures. I recommend this kit to anyone thinking about it, its a great value for the price.

Hope that helps.

Most conversions are for 15" wheels only

I had 14's on my 71, and was planning to go 15 anyways, so I got the front wheel disc brake kit from Summit  EXCELLENT kit and instructions, very good price
