installing the rear spoiler 1971
« on: July 30, 2011 - 11:47:48 PM »
i dont know if anybody has had this problem but this is what i did today..

when installing the rear go-wing on the 1971 deck lid u get bowing on the deck lid sheetmetal when tighting the hold downs..using the install kit provided, since its pulling down against a unreinforced piece of sheet metal,,so what i did was fab a aluminum plate that goes under the pedestal under the deck lid and fab aluminum tubes that the bolts/bracket would tighten against..then install the deck lid bracket in the trunk and tighten it all down,,no more bowing from being pulled down to tighten the whole assembly up.because its being pushed up from below..no pics since its all installed and u could not see it anyway,,

anybody else have this problem????

the question is how many nuts did you get in this kit, 4 or 8, you should have received 4 speed style nuts to hold the spoiler to the deck skin, then 4 2 piece adjusting nuts that hold the weight of the spoiler so the skin does bow or pull in.

I was wondering how you like the cooper tires.  I`ve been thinking about those.... I like the white letters and don`t want to go with BFG`s  :grinno:

the coopers seem to be pretty good..and hook up well too.the motor has a power band like a 2 stroke engine,,the outboard carbs open up around 3000-3200,right where the 555 lift solid cam is really coming on and at half throttle so far they grab..look good too,,had to get use to the name but the only other tire manf out there with a wide range of tires for us old schoolers is b.f. goodrich.

which i had on there at 1st but they broke loose really easy compared to these..275/60-15 rear,,245/60-15 front..goodyear no longer makes these sizes..theres just something about raised white letters on a classic muscle car

great looking car , but the wing seems to be tipped back to far , the bottom of the end of the wing should be about level with the ground

thanks,,yeah the cars so new that im still working out small things like that,,its since been rotated up in back to around level..its been on jack stands the last couple weeks while im doing detail work getting ready for the monterey bay mopars show on aug 27th at the monterey wharf,,
it seems to be running good since i had to pull the motor back out last january and change the defective cam,,bad hydralic lifters,,kept dropping pushrods due to lifters bleeding off ..............
