73 'Cuda rim suggestions
« on: July 27, 2011 - 12:37:04 PM »
I've got someone who will be beefing up my suspension on my 73 'Cuda.  Without going full-tub, he recommended a mini-tub with 15", 10.5 setup.  He hasn't started anything yet, until I get the wheels and tires.  So I've got a couple different ?'s regarding this:

1.) I'm 99% sure my bolt pattern is 5x4.5...so does that mean most 15" rim with that bolt pattern will work for the rear?
2.) Obviously I wouldn't put the 10.5 on the front, but what DO I put up there?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help shed some light on this!
Bob

With mini tubs, a 5 inch back space works good. Doc dif make a relocation kit to put 10 inch rims under your car with just bolt on mods is all

1) most aftermarket wheels with a 4.5 bolt circle will fit. The exception would be if you bought Ford factory rims, some of which are also 4.5, because they have a smaller center register than a mopar.
2) do you want more of a handling approach or dragster approach. You can get pretty wide rubber up front, but if your running steam rollers out back, it changes the look some.

What tires are you wanting to run? You can put a lot of rubber in an E body wheel well without a mini-tub. I run a 10" wide rear wheel with a 26" tall, 12" wide tire and have done no work to the wheel tubs. I could easily fit a 28" tall tire in there too. I did need to move my springs in 1" per side though as spring location may be a bigger factory than wheel well size. E bodies have spring set ups that are splayed, or wider at the back than at the front, and this impacts wheel size. The most popular and easiest to fit combination is 235/60 front on a 7 or 8 inch rim and 275/60 out back on an 8" rims. With a 10" rim, you could get 295 or 305 pretty easily, and may be able to fit a 325 with the spring move.

Thanks for the replies....to answer some questions....
2) do you want more of a handling approach or dragseter approach.

Not looking to have steamrollers under the back of my car but also not looking to have ultra handling at 100mph either...

What tires are you wanting to run?
I guess that's a place I have to start....don't really know...I'm gonna have a look in the "proven tire/rim combo" section of the site and see what I can find.  I'll post later once I see a few pix that I like and hopefully some people can chime-in as to if it's do-able or not.

Thanks again  :2thumbs:

Ok, went through the 30+ pages but didn't really see too much....looks like all the old pictures have been removed or deleted cause you can't see any of them anymore.  So if anyone has pix of their 73 'Cuda on 15, 17, or 18" wheels, I'd like to see them please...

I knew that looked familiar, lol.  Don't know if your mom & dad told you, but a couple of years ago my wife and I had some bad news regarding her (thyroid cancer), so my last 3 years or so has been a little crazy to say the least.  She's doing great now and is in the 95% survival rate category but one can never rest completely knowing that stuff was in her body and could come back.

I may contact you with any questions....but I've always liked your setup!  :2thumbs:
