stock short block expectations
« on: August 03, 2011 - 11:03:26 PM »
I bought a mopar preformance 360 la short block. Its remanned ,casting says it it was cast in 1991 Question is, with my elelbrock magnum heads and rpm intake, how much power can the block handle.I do not intend on drag racing or serious abuse , just want some decent power on tap. I am hoping to leave the short block alone.
  Any ideas from your experience?

My experience is strip the short block ...seriously
the one my customer ordered was junk , the cam was one tooth out , the cam would not rotate due to locktite in the rear brg , the brgs were dry , no prelube or oil at all , they had installed lighter pistons on the stock crank & the engine shook so hard at 3000 rpm the dash was bouncing about 2" inside the car . we had to completely rebuild & balance the engine + to add insult to injury the cam failed during break in so we had to strip it yet again to clean the engine & install a new cam

Definatly tear it down , I have never seen a poorer product !
As for power it is a Mopar , it will make good power with the right parts added & will live just fine as long as long as everything is assembled correctly initially
