Dash Restoration
« on: August 03, 2011 - 03:50:25 PM »
Getting ready to send my dash out to Just Dashes and wanted to see what you all thought of them. Do I have any other options ? The great thing with them is I will get my dash back.

I've followed several discussions here and Just Dashes versus Ultimate Rides, and I think it's running about 50/50.

You are going to pay thru the nose from Just Dashes. I have never seen one in person, so I can't comment on the quality.

I went with Ultimate Rides. Sure, you have some trimming to do around the gauge area, speaker cover, and AC vents(if you have them). I like it overall.

Year One also sells a dashpad, but it has a plastic core.

What I've been told is that Just Dashes doesn't remove the original foam from the dash core.  They just sand the cracked areas and fill them in with new foam.  Sometimes when the vinyl is formed over the core, you can still see where the cracks were.  Obviously, the better core you start out with, the better the end product will be.

I went through Dave at Rosevillemoparts.com.  He is on this site.  I sent my original pad out to UR and had it returned to me.   I messed it up and sent it back to be redone but dealt with UR the second time around.  The second time I did NOT get my core back.   If you go through Dave, you will most likely get your original core back.  Dealing with UR dirrectly...maybe not.

The vinyl that UR uses doesn't have the correct grain pattern.  It's way off of what came on my 73.  The 1970's that I've seen have a different vinyl and I think UR pads match that pretty well.  Maybe you could get a sample of the vinyl that Just Dashes uses and see how it compares.

If I had it to do  over I probably would go with Dave.  Don't try to deal with UR as an individual, it's bad enough going thru an organization.  I went thru Rocket Restorations and it still took seven months.  I got my own core back and I like the pad. PK

I would say it would be best to deal with Dave at Roseville.  He gives a discount and you know he's got a heck of a lot more pull in case something isn't right.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.
